Bull elk

Corliss Outfitting offers a variety of guided elk hunts in south-central and southwest New Mexico. The hunts will take place in the Lincoln National Forest or in the famous Gila Wilderness and Gila National Forest.

Archery Elk seasons are in September, with the first archery hunt taking place September 1st – 14th. The second archery hunt runs the 15th – 24th. Hunters will experience pre-rut activity during the first archery hunt and heavy rutting activity during the second archery hunt. Hunting techniques will consist of calling and spot and stalk. Archery hunts will consist of any 6 days of the hunt period unless other arrangements have been made.

Muzzleloader Elk seasons begin October 6th – 10th with the bulls in full rut. The Gila offers three additional hunts in the primitive units being October 13th – 17th, October 20th – 24th and November 17th – 21st. Muzzleloader hunts provide the hunter the opportunity to hunt during the middle of the rut using calling the bulls in to spot and stalk.

Rifle Elk seasons begin October 6th – 10th for Youth Only hunters and October 13th – 17th, October 20th – 24th, and October 27th - 31st. Hunters can expect to hunt the tail end of the rut with some bugling. The main technique used during the rifle hunts is spot and stalk.
